Graveside Services:  Thursday, August 26, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Greenacres Cemetery
Alfred Grant (Alf) Gunn, 92, died August 21, 2010 in Provo, Utah from a stroke. Alf was born June 24, 1918, in Salt Lake City, UT, the third child of five born to Alfred Gardner Gunn and Dora Arilla (Jensen) Gunn.  He married Barbara Reeve in Washington, D.C, on August 16, 1940. They were sealed for all eternity in the Salt Lake Temple of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints on August 17, 1959
After graduating with honors from Benjamin Franklin University, Washington, D.C., Alf enjoyed a 35-year career as a Special Agent in the FBI. As Senior Resident Agent in Bellingham, he developed excellent liaison with the RCMP and other Canadian Law Enforcement. One result was the capture of Top Ten Fugitive Joseph Corbett, Jr., kidnapper and killer of Adolph Coors III, in Vancouver, B.C. Alf was recognized as an outstanding criminal investigator.
Alf was a retired charter member of the Bellingham Tennis Club, and Bellingham Golf and Country Club, a former member of Rotary and BPO Elks, and past President of the Whatcom County-British Columbia Law Enforcement Council.
A faithful and devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Alf served in many callings including bishop to two wards, on several High Councils, and as a member of the Bellingham Washington Stake Presidency. He loved his volunteer service in the Seattle LDS Temple for over 20 years. Alf and Barbara’s unselfish Christian philanthropy was generous beyond their reasonable means, and known but to few. They had strong testimonies of the restored gospel and lived their lives and raised their three children as faithful disciples of Jesus Christ.
After the passing of his dear wife, Barbara, in 2007 Alf moved to Utah to live with his daughter. He spoke fondly of his Bellingham ‘church family,’ friends from the tennis and golf clubs, as well as his wonderful condo neighbors. Early to bed and early to rise, Alf walked two hours each morning. After being diagnosed with Parkinson’s he switched to exercising indoors. He kept up on current events and liked discussing politics and gospel topics. Legally blind since 2000 he enjoyed reading his books on tape furnished by the State Library for the Blind. He delighted in being around his great-grandchildren and attending the LDS temple.
He is survived by his children: Alfred Gary Gunn (Marcia) of Gig Harbor, WA; Ronald R. Gunn (Marlene) of Sao Paulo, Brazil; and Gaylene Beeson (Richard) of Orem, UT; 16 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and brother Rodger Gunn (Helen) of Provo, UT.   He was preceded in death by his wife Barbara; sisters Gwendolyn Fullmer and Dorathea Jensen; brother Raymond J. Gunn; and a grandchild, Joseph Beeson.
Graveside services for friends and family will be held at Greenacres Cemetery in Ferndale, WA at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, August 26, 2010.
