Mozelle English Burr Green died of natural causes on April 21, 2023. Mozelle was born in Globe, AZ on April 26, 1931, the fifth of six children to John and Daisy English.
She graduated from North Phoenix High School in 1949 and received her BA in Education from the University of Redlands, Redlands, CA in 1953. Mozelle’s career as a teacher spanned 36 years. Her first teaching job was in Carlsbad, CA, followed by teaching positions in Oakland and Lafayette, CA, with additional years teaching overseas in Navy schools in the Philippines and Morocco.
Mozelle married Robert Burr in Lafayette, CA in 1960. Both were teachers and brought their teaching skills to Bellingham in 1964. Mozelle fell in love with Bellingham’s climate, scenery, and everything else it had to offer. She taught at Silver Beach Elementary School, Shuksan Middle School, and spent the last 23 years of her teaching career at Lowell Elementary School. Mozelle was the teacher everyone wanted and her students will recount that they were the fortunate few who were blessed to be in such a nurturing learning environment where they were truly encouraged to excel.
For Mozelle, teaching was a perfect profession in which she met and taught so many children whom she loved and was blessed to have known.
Following the death of her husband, Robert Burr, in 1989, Mozelle married Wallace Green in 1990, whereupon she was blessed with an extended family beyond her happiest expectations. Together Mozelle and Wally spent many joyous retirement years enjoying family, golfing, traveling, and volunteering. Mozelle had a great sense of style and was a good friend, passionate gardener, gourmet cook, excellent hostess, avid reader, community volunteer, and retained her interest in education and current events.
She is survived by her nephew John, a loving extended family, and many wonderful friends and students, whom she treasured.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 20 at 11:00am at Westford Funeral Home followed by a reception at Broadway Hall.
