Aldin Hemnes, age 84 of Bellingham passed away on January 28, 2016 in Bellingham. Aldin was born on April 9, 1931 in Bellingham, WA to Carl and Hannah (Akre) Hemnes.
He attended Meridian Schools and maintained lifelong friendships with his classmates. After graduating High School in 1950 he attended Washington State University and then joined the Air Force in 1951. Al married Jane (Anderson) Hemnes on May 4, 1955 at the Laurel Community Baptist Church. Al retired from Georgia Pacific Chlorine plant in 1995.
Over the years his favorite activities included the annual fruitcake baking/delivery, the continued tradition of making lefsa, fishing, camping, traveling, following college football and basketball, the Mariners, and Seahawks. He instilled his love for reading in his children and passed down loving traditions to each grandchild. He also made his great-grand children feel special with each visit.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Hemnes (2015), great-grandson Maddox, sisters: Marion McKelvy, Caroline McManes & Olive Hemnes, brothers: John & Robert Hemnes. He is survived by children Janet (Dale) Nilsen, Jeff (Lynette) Hemnes and Barbara Hemnes, grandchildren Breanna Nilsen (Eric Markwood), Karsten Nilsen, Lucas (Amy) Hemnes, Tessa (Brian ) Kooiker and Megan (Brian) VandenHeuvel, great-grandchildren Sydni, Moses, Kolt, Millie, Sanders, Skarlett, Winslet and Pierce, brothers Ed Hemnes, Richard Hemnes & Marvin (Barbara) Hemnes, sister-in-law Donna (Ron) Weidkamp and many other loving friends and family members.
Memorial donations in Aldin’s name may be made to Lynden Christian Schools or a charity of your choice.
An open house reception will be held at the Squalicum Boathouse at Zuanich Point, 2600 N. Harbor Loop Dr. in Bellingham from 11am to 3pm on Friday, February 5th.
