When Alice A Cheek was 17, she met and fell in love with a young Texan who attended the Missionary Baptist Church in Salinas, California. A year later she married the love of her life, Bonnie, and became Alice Cave. Alice and Bonnie were then blessed with five children, Trent, Laura, David, Linda, and Alan. Their first home was in Salinas, but they quickly moved to the St. Helens, Oregon area, living in Yankton, Bachelor Flat, and St. Helens proper. After Bonnie’s death in 2005, Alice moved to Bellingham, Washington to live with Linda and her husband, Jim Paulsen. Alice’s life was devoted to her family and her churches, the First Missionary Baptist church of St. Helens and Bellingham Baptist church.
After losing her beloved husband of 62 years, Alice continued to be a loving foundation for her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Three of her children, Laura, David, and Alan were called to heaven before their mother so they could greet her with open arms when she arrived. We know she is rejoicing to be joined with her children again, and with her one and only, Bonnie. Her extended family of nephews, nieces, and assimilated grandkids will profoundly miss her. A memorial service will be held in Alice’s honor at the First Missionary Baptist Church of St. Helen’s in Oregon on Saturday, September 17th at 11 a.m. A potluck will follow in the church fellowship hall.
