Al Claus, age 88 of Bellingham passed away peacefully on April 15, 2016. He was born July 3, 1927 in San Jose, CA to Peter and Agnes Claus. Al graduated from Bellingham High School and served in the U.S. Merchant Marines during WWII. He married Anna Zurn on May 2, 1949 at Church of the Assumption in Bellingham.
Al worked with his father and brothers in the family business, Claus Meats. He was a dedicated business owner and worked extremely hard and was proud that his son-in-law Keith and grandson Kyle continue to run the business today. Al always had a smile and a good laugh for everyone he met. He enjoyed traveling to warm places and playing bridge and cribbage.
Al was preceded in death by his wife Anna, daughter Cathy, brothers Glen, Mel and Chuck, sister Sr. Mary Lucy. He is survived by his daughter Sue (husband Keith) Rodenberger, grandson Kyle Rodenberger (husband Randy Pierce), granddaughter Kelly Ortiz and her son Braiden, son-in-law Ken Visser, and many loving relatives and friends.
A celebration of Al’s life will be held at Westford’s Broadway Hall, 1300 Broadway at 1 PM on Sunday, May 15, 2016. Memorials may be made to Whatcom Hospice.
