Andrew “Andy” Accimus, age 55 of Bellingham, passed away on Wednesday, July 14, 2010. He was born July 11, 1955 in Pasco, WA; the oldest son of Andrew and Claire Accimus.
Andy graduated from Mark Morris High School in Longview, WA in 1973. He attended Lower Columbia Community College and eventually transferred to Western Washington University where he was a Political Science major. He was very active on the Debate team while at Western. He was also involved in the local theater group in Bellingham, and after several leading roles, he was awarded “Best Actor of the Year.” He was an avid sports fan, following all of the local sports teams, and enjoyed playing competitive softball in his early adult years. He was a passionate, lifelong fan of the New York Jets and the Notre Dame Fighting Irish. Andy loved the outdoors, and a favorite memory of his was a 4 week backpacking trip that he took with his father around Vancouver Island in the early 80’s. He was an outgoing person, and enjoyed talking sports, politics, or religion with anyone. He was also very proud of his Irish heritage.
Andy spent the last few years of his life dedicated to helping the homeless in the Bellingham area. He was a member of the Hope House Street Outreach team and he had been on the Whatcom County Housing Advisory Committee. He was a member of the Church of the Assumption and the Knights of Columbus.
Andy was preceded in death by his mother, Claire. He is survived by his father, Andrew of Woodinville; brothers Pat (Carolyn) of Woodinville and their children Drew & Brett; and Mark (Stefanie) of Castle Rock and their son Boone; a special Aunt Eleen; and numerous loving cousins. The family would like to thank Theresa Meurs and Bonnie Trenouth for their special friendship with Andy.
