Annie Smit, age 92 passed away peacefully on April 15, 2012 in Bellingham. She was born to Robert Boyett and Haney E. (Strickland) Boyett in Florida on August 23, 1919. Annie moved to Washington in the 1940’s and married Leonard Smit on February 21, 1959. Annie worked at Hayden Grocery Store from 1960-1977. She and Smitty purchased Cap Hansen Tavern in January of 1970. They sold and retired from Cap Hansen in 1993. Annie was preceded in death by her husband Leonard Smit, sister Emily Roache, niece Mildred LeGrone, and nephew Harvey “Butch” Boyett, Jr. She is survived by her brother Harvey Boyett of Panama City, Florida, nephew Alan LeGrone of Blakely, Georgia, brothers-in-law Clarence and Albert Smit of Lynden, WA and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the staff at Alderwood Park Convalescent for their wonderful care of Annie. A graveside service will be held at Greenacres Cemetery on Monday, April 23 at 3 PM.
