Ardella York

d. April 18, 2011

08/24/1920-04/18/2011
Ardella Angeley York, age 90, of Bellingham, WA passed away peacefully in her home on April 18, 2011.  She was born August 24, 1920 in Port Chester, NY to William & Dorinda (Lyon) Angeley, the second of five children. She attended Greenwich (CT) High School.  Ardella worked in retail for many years, which held some of her fondest memories. She then went on to work for General Electric in Stamford, CT, from which she subsequently retired.  She married Joseph York in 1967, lived in CT and after both retiring they moved to the Venice and Port Charlotte, FL area.  Together they took many wonderful trips, her most memorable being Hawaii.  Ardella was an avid bowler, and did so into her late 80s, always proud of her high series.  Ardella and Joe moved to Henderson, NV in 1999, living the good life, as she liked to say.  Joe passed away in 2001, which brought Ardella to Bellingham, where some of her Angeley family resides.  Ardella was an avid pinochle and casino player, enjoyed crossword puzzles, an accomplished needlepoint artist, travelling with her friends, and being with her family. Ardella had an upbeat personality, making people smile with her sayings, which included her favorites “I had it when I needed it” along with “That’s why they make vanilla and chocolate ice cream.” Ardella was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings Dorinda, Eugene, William and Richard.  She is survived by her step-son Douglas (Lynne) York and her extended Angeley family and many dear friends. A private family memorial will be held at a later date.  Donations may be made to Whatcom Hospice Foundation (800 E Chestnut, Ste 1-A, Bellingham, WA 98225, or to a charity of your choice.
