Art Reynolds, 97 years old, passed away peacefully in Bellingham on Saturday, August 26th, 2017. Art was born on November 12, 1919 in Tenino, Washington to John and Ida (Kron) Reynolds. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theater, surviving two invasions, including Okinawa. His ship also transported the first occupation troops to Japan; he was in Tokyo Bay during the signing of Japan’s unconditional surrender. He worked as a commercial fisherman, steel fabricator, and owned Art’s Tavern in Fairhaven. He was a champion tree sitter, at the age of 10 he sat in a poplar tree on the Columbia School grounds for 240 hours to set the local record. He graduated from Bellingham High School in 1939, where he played football. Art also boxed a main event at Liberty Hall. He loved having a good time. He was a member of the VFW, American Legion and was in the Masons (Rainier Lodge). Art was preceded in death by his first wife Patricia “Pat” Reynolds, and his siblings Marjorie Widic, Virgil Reynolds, Delbert Reynolds, and Bernice Hanson. Art is survived by his wife Joyce Oiness Reynolds, Art and Pat’s son Steve (Denise) Reynolds, Joyce’s children Mark (Kathy) Oiness, Kathy (Craig) Lind, Marlene (Howard) Bronson and Steve Oiness, and by many loving grandchildren, great-grandchildren, relatives and friends. A graveside service with military honors will be held at Greenacres Memorial Park, 5700 Northwest Dr. in Ferndale on Thursday, August 31st at 12 Noon, followed by a reception at 1 PM at the Bellingham VFW Post 1585, 625 N.
