Barbara (Basia) Teresa Czapczynska, 84, of Bellingham, Washington, passed away peacefully on September 14, 2023. She was born on January 23, 1939 in Lublin, Poland to the late Antonina and Florian Hagel. She was the beloved wife of the late Ryszard Czapczynski, who preceded her in death in 1992. She was also preceded in death by her son Jaroslaw Czapczynski in 2012 and her six brothers and sisters: Tadeusz, Kazimierz, Zbyszko, Marian, Andrzej, and Henryka.
Barbara is survived by her daughter, Magdalena Theisen and her husband Greg of Bellingham, her grandsons Bartek Wernicki of Bellingham and Kamil Czapczynski of Athlon, Ireland. Barbara spent much of her last 30+ years dedicated to helping raise her two grandsons. Food was love for Barbara. She enjoyed cooking and sharing food with others. She was devoted to her family and always made sure they were well cared for. She was shy but also brave, having lived through many hardships and challenges in her life. She moved to Bellingham in 2013 and spent her last years surrounded by her daughter’s family and friends. She formed a special bond with Ruth Phillips, who became her close friend and confidante - Ruth passed away in 2020.
A Mass will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bellingham. Interment will follow next spring in Lublin, Poland. The family would like to thank the staff of PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center for their compassionate care and support.
Barbara will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her. She will always be remembered for her kindness, generosity, faith, and courage. May she rest in peace.
