3/25/1922 – 5/27/2012
Betty Jo (Crafton) Allsop passed away peacefully at the Hospice House in Bellingham on May 27, 2012. This was two months after her 90th birthday when the entire family gathered around from as far away as Brazil to celebrate her long and wonderful life.
Betty was born in Pocatello, Idaho and met her husband Ivor “Buss” Allsop in Sun Valley, Idaho in 1936, where she was among the first employees of the Sun Valley Resort. Betty and Ivor loved skiing and raised their three sons to be ski racers. Betty became an accomplished dancer in her youth and opened the Bettina School of Dance in Bellingham which she operated for over 25 years. She helped Ivor start Allsop Inc. in 1964 by making Boot-ins in their garage at Lake Whatcom. She was the greatest supporter of the products the company turned out for the next 48 years culminating in her efforts to install Allsop outdoor solar lanterns at Spring Creek Retirement Center.
Betty’s greatest gift was her love of others. She made many friends throughout her life and she valued those friendships greatly. She adored her children, grandchildren and her great-grandchildren and was always interested in what they were doing. Betty will be greatly missed by her family.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Ivor Jon Allsop, her second husband Howard Nachtrieb, her mother Gladys Johnson, her father Joseph Travis Crafton, her step-father Jack Johnson, her brother Robert Crafton, her step-sister Cleo Johnson, her step-brother James E. Johnson and her grandson Brett Allsop.
Betty is survived by her 3 sons Jon (Mary), Mike (Maya) and Jim (Darcy) and her grandchildren Ivor, Jensen, Ryan (Tina), Jamey Greene (Adam), Skye (Tori) and 7 great-grandchildren Riley, Aspen, Kehr, Emma, James Thomas, Anja Greene and Oliver, Howard’s son Han Nachtrieb (Shawn) and their son William, and many loving relatives and friends.
Memorials may be made to either Whatcom Hospice House or PeaceHealth St. Joseph Medical Center Foundation at 2901 Squalicum Pkwy, Bellingham, WA 98225.
A memorial service will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Bellingham on Friday, June 15th at 2 pm followed by a reception in the Great Hall.
