Betty Lou Kuljis, age 85, of Bellingham, WA, passed away on December 31, 2018, on the Island of Maui. She was surrounded by her husband and her three children. Betty lost her courageous fight against cancer after a six month long battle. Betty was born to Kay and Bert Kohler in Balfour, North Dakota on January 4, 1933. She is survived by her husband Steve, daughters Teresa Kuljis and Tracey Cannon (Peter), son Mark Kuljis (Debbie); sister Rose Gleason (Bob, deceased), sister-in-law MaryAnn Mallahan (Matt, deceased); grandsons Nathan Vogts (Neung), Andrew Cyr (Larisa), Jacob Kennedy Kuljis, granddaughter Claire Pearson; great-grandchildren Natasha Vogts, Noelle and Ramona Cyr, Austin and Emerson Pearson, and many nieces, nephews, close relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her sister Delores Molleston (Gene, deceased), twin brother Don Kohler, (survived by Evelyn), and granddaughter Christina Cyr. Betty attended Assumption Catholic School and Bellingham High School, graduating in 1950. She was a Blossomtime Princess that year, and was spotted on the float as it passed, by Steve Kuljis, her soon to be husband of 66 years. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church where she was in regular attendance, and BGCC, where she enjoyed many rounds and golf mixes on Friday afternoons. Betty was a wonderful and skilled seamstress, decorator, cook, baker, and gardener. Betty was widely known on Bellingham's "south side", and had a love for life and a sparkle that could fill a room. With her kind heart and genuine interest in everyone she met, she will be dearly missed by all her family and friends. UPDATE- THERE WILL BE NO VIGIL SERVICE HELD FRIDAY, APRIL 26th. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Saturday, April 27th at 10 AM. Reception following at the church.
