Betty Rickenbacker, age 85 of Lynden, WA passed away on September 17, 2015. She was born on September 27, 1929 to Lee and Lorna (Triplett) Huntley and was raised by Mickey and Roy Huntley of Lynden.
Betty enjoyed gardening with her husband Herman, competitive bowling, watching the Seahawks, and loved hosting family gatherings. She was an avid fan of her grandson Steve and followed his football career from childhood through WWU. She was well known for her fabulous cooking, especially her delicious pies, breads and beautiful cakes.
She loved to read, and thanks to the WA State Dept. of Services for the Blind, was able to enjoy audio books for years after the loss of her eyesight. She had a sweet, loving nature, a wonderful sense of humor, a generous spirit and shared freely with all of us lucky enough to be friend or family, much caring, laughter and wonderful food. Betty often said her greatest dream in life was to be a mother and grandmother- and she was a fabulous success at both!
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Herman and grandson Ethan. She is survived by daughters Kathy Bernardy and Kris (Dennis) Angell, son Jack Rickenbacker, grandchildren Jasmine (Josh) Eshuis, Steve (Sara) Bernardy, Erin Bernardy (Tyler Hutchins), Melissa and Megan Angell and Arianna and Sam Rickenbacker, great-grandchildren Summer, Alexia, Rylan, Eden, Vince, Owen and Rubin, brother Howard (Terry) Huntley, sister Barbara (Dean) Jorgenson, and many relatives and friends.
A Remembrance Gathering will be held on Saturday, September 26th from 2-6 PM at the Bernardy home, 1553 Kamm Rd. in Lynden.
