Capt. Daniel Benjamin Bartle, USMC
Dan Bartle, age 27, died January 19, 2012 in a helicopter crash while serving our country in Afghanistan. He was born April 9, 1984 in Salinas, CA to John and Sandra Bartle.
Dan lived in Missoula, MT before moving to Ferndale, WA as a high school freshman. He graduated valedictorian from Ferndale High School in 2002 with a 4.0 GPA. Upon graduating from the U.S. Naval Academy in 2006 with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering and a minor in Spanish, which he spoke fluently, he chose to serve in the U.S. Marine Corps. He earned numerous awards and medals including two Air Medals, a Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and a National Defense Service Medal. His strong work ethic, love of laughter, and humility made him adored and admired by all those who were fortunate enough to have known him. Dan enjoyed traveling, snowboarding, kite surfing, power lifting and listening to music. He was preceded in death by his brother Michael in 1997. He is survived by his parents, John and Sandra Bartle; sister Sheila and husband John Davis and their children Ashley Kennedy and Collin Davis; brother John and wife Anastasia Bartle and their children Hannah, Emma, Sophia, Ava and Julia; Michael’s sons Bishop and Devon Bartle and their mother Shelly Verwolf; and many loving family members and friends. Memorials may be made to Ferndale Dollars for Scholars, Daniel Bartle Fund, PO Box 3113, Ferndale, WA, 98248, Hope House at Assumption Church, 2116 Cornwall Ave., Bellingham, WA, or to the U.S.O. online at www.USO.org/donate . PROCESSION- Capt. Bartle will be arriving at Bellingham International Airport at 1 PM on Saturday, January 28. The procession will travel south from Gate 9, on Mitchell Way, which becomes Airport Way. Left on Airport Drive to the Bakerview I-5 onramp, I-5 south to the Northwest Avenue exit, south on Northwest, which turns in to Elm, to Broadway, south on Broadway ending at Westford Funeral Home, 1301 Broadway. You are invited to honor Capt. Bartle at any point along the procession route. SERVICES- A celebration of Dan’s life will be held on Sunday, January 29th at 6 PM at Ferndale High School, 5830 Golden Eagle Drive in Ferndale. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, January 30th at 10:30 AM at Church of the Assumption, 2116 Cornwall Avenue in Bellingham. A reception will follow at the Church.
