Carl Hamm, age 95, passed away Tuesday, September 14, 2021 in Bellingham. He was born June 11, 1926 in Allegany, NY to Herman and Minitina Hamm. While serving in the US Navy, Carl bravely fought in the South Pacific, including the Invasion of Iwo Jima. He married Gene Williams on July 15, 1949 in Allegany, NY. They moved to Bellingham for the opening of the Mobil Refinery in 1954. After working at the refinery, Carl owned and operated Whatcom Welding Supply. Carl was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and an active member of the Albert J. Hamilton Post #7 of the American Legion, where he served as Commander, Adjutant and Chaplain. He also founded and led the Honor Guard for many years and was a proud member of the American Legion for 77 years. He was preceded in death by his wife Gene in 2013, by his parents Herman and Minitina, and sister Marie Bump. Carl is survived by his son Jim (Tracy) Hamm and their children Jamie and Christopher, daughter Jeanine (Loren) Hamm and her daughter Chanel, and many loving friends. The family wishes to thank Whatcom Hospice and the Spring Creek Memory Care staff for all their loving care and kindness. Viewing will be on Monday September 20th from 3-5pm at Westford Funeral Home 1301 Broadway, Bellingham. Services will be held on Tuesday September 21st; 10am graveside service with Military Honors at Greenacres, 11:30am Memorial Service at Trinity Lutheran Church, 119 Texas St. followed by a reception at the American Legion Post #7, 1668 W.
