Chuck Claus, age 91, went to be with the Lord and Saviour on September 12, 2012 in Bellingham. Chuck was born September 26, 1920 in Seattle, WA to Peter and Agnes (Wise) Claus. Chuck was a member of the first graduating class of Bellingham High School in 1938. He was an accomplished boxer and fought in the Golden Gloves. Chuck served in the Seabees from 1942-46. He returned to Bellingham to work in the family business, Claus Meats, which he co-owned with his family until his retirement in 1979. In 1968 Chuck met a lovely German girl, Doris. They were married February 27, 1971 and had 41 wonderful years together. He was a member of Assumption Church, the Bellingham Yacht Club, Bellingham Golf and Country Club and the American Legion. He was a member of the Bellingham Elks Club for over 60 years. Chuck had a big heart, a big smile, and loved meeting new people. The family would like to thank Dr. Eduardo Goo and his staff, Shirley and Sue, Mt. Baker Care Center, and Whatcom Hospice for all of their care and compassion. Memorials may be made to Assumption Catholic School or Whatcom Hospice. Chuck was preceded in death by his brothers Glenn and Melvin Claus, and his sister Sr. Lucy Claus. He is survived by his loving wife Doris, son Brian (wife Sandra Claus), one granddaughter, one great-granddaughter, brother Al Claus, and many loving relatives and friends. A Vigil Service will be held at Westford Funeral Home on Tuesday, September 18th at 7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Wednesday, September 19th at 12 noon. A reception will follow at the church.
