Charles V. Farrell, DMD

Dr. Charles V. Farrell passed away in Bellingham, WA on February 12, 2024. Chuck, as his friends and fellow Rotarians called him, was born in Bellingham to Dr. Charles and Sarah “Fay” Farrell on June 21, 1933. He graduated from Bellingham High School where he played basketball and varsity football. He attended Western Washington State College (now WWU), and the University of Washington between the years of 1951-1960. Chuck joined the Navy where he was a Naval Aviator. His specialty was air anti-submarine patrol and was promoted to flight instructor status by his third year in the service.
In 1960, Chuck enrolled at the University of Oregon Dental School, receiving his dental degree in 1964. He was class Valedictorian and was honored with both Alpha Omega and Omicron Kappa Upsilon recognition.
In addition to the usual local, state, and national dental associations, Chuck was a member of the American College of Dentists, an honorary organization which guides the ethics of the profession. He served as vice-president, president-elect, and, from 1996-1997, served as the president of the national organization. He was also a member of the International College of Dentists, the International Academy of Gnathology, and he served on the Washington State Dental Board of Examiners for eleven years. Chuck practiced dentistry in Bellingham for 47 years, rendering exceptional dental treatment to his lucky patients.
Chuck married Maryanna Ryder in 1959 and she was his greatest support throughout his schooling and life. They raised two marvelous children, Monica and Paul. His hobbies included fishing, golfing, skiing, and spending time at the family cabin on Orcas Island.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Monica Fetty, in 2012; brother, Paul Farrell; and his parents.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Maryanna; son, Paul (Marcy) Farrell; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Kit Farrell, and Bridget, Isabel, and Vin Fetty; and sisters, Katherine Baum, Dr. Margaret Horstmeyer-White, Fran Donis, and Ann Bell.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11am on Wednesday, February 21 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Bellingham with a reception following in the Parish Hall. He will be laid to rest at Bayview Cemetery.
