Christopher "Chris" John Llewellyn Hughes

February 19, 1963 — February 16, 2025

Bellingham

Christopher John Llewellyn Hughes, 62, of Bellingham, WA, passed away on February 16, 2025 after a hard fought battle with cancer. Chris was born on February 19, 1963 in Rhodesia, Africa to David and Mary Hughes and was raised alongside his three brothers, David, Jeremy, and Robyn Hughes, in West Vancouver, Canada. Chris met the love of his life, Sandy Marshall, in the fall of 1985 in Toronto. The two lovingly married overlooking the glistening waters of Lake Tahoe in July 1992.

Chris possessed a strength that defied logic, an endlessly positive outlook, and a presence that stuck with everyone who had the honor to meet him. Oftentimes, it was said that when he spoke, no matter how loud, people couldn’t help but listen. He held a passion for playing soccer with his two sons, Michael and Tyler, and for sharing the field with his over-forty intramural soccer team. He took immense pride in watching Tyler dominate on the soccer field and in listening to Michael’s stellar musical performances. Rain, shine, or wind, his favorite place to go for a walk was at Zuanich Point Park alongside Sandy, Michael, Tyler, and his beloved dog, Bella.

Chris was a real estate agent with RE/MAX Whatcom County at the time of his passing, where he worked alongside Michael in their dual-managed team, The Hughes Group. He touched so many lives with his generosity, wisdom, and loyalty, and will be missed by all who knew him.

Chris is survived by his wife Sandy Hughes, his son Michael Hughes, his son Tyler Hughes, his mother Mary, his brother David, his brother Jeremy, his brother Robyn, his dog Bella, his grand-dog Indigo, and his grand-dog Levi.

Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Chris’s life on Sunday, March 30, 2025 anytime between 11:00 am - 3:00 pm at the Squalicum Boathouse located in Zuanich Point Park, 2600 N Harbor Loop Dr. Bellingham, WA 98225.

In lieu of flowers, please feel free to donate in Chris’s name to Whatcom Hospice Foundation or the Whatcom Humane Society.
