Born in Laurel, MT, March 28, 1925 to Paul Score and Elise Blechschmidt Score. A short while thereafter, the family moved to Butte, MT. In Butte, Dean grew up and went to elementary and high school. Dean was always proud of being from Montana.
After graduating from Butte High School in 1944, he joined the Navy and entered World War II. He served 2 years as a radioman and handled many important communications. He was called back to serve 2 more years during the Korean War.
In 1946 Dean married Cenella “Lee” Score of Bradenton, FL. After marrying in Florida, the couple moved to Missoula, MT where Dean attended and graduated from University of Montana. After graduating with a degree in Education, Dean taught high school in Hardin, MT and Roundup, MT. In 1955 he moved to Deming, WA where he taught at Mt. Baker High School for 25 years, until he retired in 1980.
He is survived by his wife Lee, of Deming; a daughter Judy Wilson (David) in Seattle; two sons, Eric and Mike; two grandsons, Alex Wilson (Brianna) in Seattle, and Nick Wilson in CA; and one sister Marlene Nally of Winter Haven, FL.
Dean enjoyed being a Ham operator (short wave) as a hobby long after his service in the military. He has many QSL cards as confirmation of contacts from many different countries. Many of these cards and an article about him are on display at the Bellingham Museum of Radio. A graveside service with military honors will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery on Sat., Oct. 15th at 2 PM followed by a reception at Immanuel Lutheran Church.
