Delbert Earl Livermore was born July 9, 1925 to Elizabeth & Chester Livermore of Bellingham. Del graduated from Bellingham High School in 1943 and three days later joined the U.S. Navy. He was stationed aboard the USS SIBONEY in the Pacific and served 4 years. When he returned from his tour of duty he joined his father in the Livermore & Son Water Well Drilling business, which was founded by Del's grandfather in 1884, making it one of the oldest continuous operating business in Whatcom County. The business became his life's work and was transferred to new ownership in 2004. Del was the third and final generation of well drillers in his family. Del drilled his last well at the age of 79. In 1956 he had the good fortune to marry Connie King and took on the task of helping raise her three teenage children, Conny, Janell & Al Saab, while also raising his daughter Tonda. Del & Connie were married for 55 years until her passing in October 2011. In his younger years, Del was an avid snow skier and was well known on the Mt. Baker slopes. He was a National Ski Patroller and was the Mt. Baker Ski Patrol Director for many years. Del was also involved with the National Ski Racing Association, and was selected to volunteer at the 1960 Olympics in Squaw Valley. Del & Connie enjoyed dancing, boating, golfing and traveling. He was a Grand Master of the Bellingham Masonic Lodge and was a life member of American Legion Post 7 and Bellingham Elks No. 194. Del and Connie were members of the Bellingham Golf & Country Club, Bellingham Yacht Club and Bellingham Gyro. Del is survived by children Conny (Lillie) Saab, Sacramento, CA, Janell (Carl) Erickson, Bellevue, Al (Donna) Saab, Ferndale, and Tonda (Mike) Robinson, Bellingham, 9 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Seattle Children’s Hospital at P.O. Box 5371 Seattle, WA 98145-5005. A graveside service for Del will be held at Greenacres Memorial Park on Monday, May 8th at 1 PM.
