Donald Grant Wilcox

March 2, 1937 — March 30, 2023

Don didn’t quest to sand down the rough edges of life. He looked to experience and challenge the limits of the human experience. Some examples are:
• Over 50 years as Pro Patrol and volunteer at The Mt. Baker Ski Area.
• Accomplished mountaineer and back country skier.
• His competitive nature was exhibited by his many races as a runner, biker and tri-athlete where he won many races.
• He participated many years as the cross-country ski leg of the Mt. Baker Veteran Team for the Ski-to-Sea race.
• He loved golfing which was typically 18 holes at a time, while carrying his own clubs.

Don had an appreciation of each day and made the most of it. This could be expressed as:
• Making fresh tracks skiing in the backcountry and breathing in the fresh mountain air.
• Getting hands-on into a building project.
• Riding his bike twice a day and gearing up for all types of weather.
• Savoring a good cup of coffee … yet only with the right amount of cream.
• He followed many sports, including cycling racing. A dedicated fan, he enjoyed watching the athleticism of navigating the rough terrain and cobbles of the Paris-Roubaix cycling race, Tour de France and more. He would get up in the middle of the night to watch live streaming of races.

Relationship
• Don enjoyed life and his many, many friendships.
• He appreciated the human spirit.

Architect
• An architect with a wide range of scope, Don created designs for residential homes, municipal buildings and large-scale projects such as the iconic White Salmon Day Lodge at the Mt. Baker Ski Area.
• Don owned his own architecture firm in Bellingham and received many architectural awards and recognition.
• He appreciated design, color, detail and quality.

Family
Don is survived by his daughter Holly Wilcox of Baltimore, Maryland, her husband Eric London and two grandchildren, Ben and Zoe.
