Dorothy M. Dahl

Dorothy Mae Dahl, of Bellingham, WA, passed away Saturday, August 7, 2021. She was 98, born in Sioux City, Iowa to Anna (Erikson) and Andrew Ericson. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Karl Dahl in 1999, her daughter Janice Dahl and her son Jon Dahl both in 2019. She is survived by her children, son Ed and wife Barbara Dahl and daughter Ann Dahl; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and numerous relatives. Dorothy was dearly loved Kurt and Linda Anderson and their family. She was the beloved surrogate grandparent to their children. Dorothy was cherished by numerous nieces and nephews, and their families scattered about the country as well as family members from Scandinavia.

Dorothy enlisted in the Navy as a Wave during WWII and was stationed at Livermore, CA. Dorothy stayed in touch with many of her fellow Waves throughout her lifetime. She married Karl in May 14,1945 while they were both in the Navy. After their discharge they moved to Bellingham in 1945.

She was an active member of Faith Lutheran Church and enjoyed quilting with Faith Lutheran ladies for decades. Dorothy especially appreciated the thank you notes they received from the recipient agencies. Their handiwork brought warmth and comfort to many souls. Dorothy loved getting cards, letters, phone calls and especially visits from all her family.

Dorothy and Karl loved to attend the Pacific Coast Norwegian Singers Sangerfests, which became the family summer vacations. Karl loved singing and they both loved to dance during these Sangerfests. Dorothy also loved to bake goodies for after church coffee hours. She was well known by her family for baking her Swedish Rye bread and other Scandinavian baked goods. Her gracious smile greeted all those who entered her home or church.

Time flies, suns rise, and shadows fall, loved ones arrive and elders say goodbye, but family love holds us together. Dorothy was our matriarch.

An outside memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Friday, August 27th at Christ Lutheran Church in Ferndale. Dorothy’s final resting place will be Greenacres Memorial Park.
