Dorothy Skaggs passed away peacefully early in the morning on August 19, 2015. She was 94 and was a life long resident of Bellingham and a life member of Church of the Assumption. Dorothy was the last remaining sibling of the Jones family.
While her life was long it was not always easy and she suffered several tragedies. When Dorothy's first husband Burt McGinnis died she was only 37 years old and had a 10 year old son. Dorothy later found love with her second husband Jerry Skaggs. Jerry passed away and in 2007, Dorothy lost her beloved and only son, Michael. Her siblings, Osborn, Grace, Jack and Eva also preceded her in death.
Dorothy held many jobs in a variety of local businesses including Howard’s Sundries, Schuck's Auto Supply, Wahl’s Department Store, and Griggs Office Supply. Dorothy was well liked and had many friends and extended family members. She liked knitting, crossword puzzles and spending time with her cat Queenie. Dorothy was an avid reader and enjoyed everything from tabloids to the classics. She was intelligent, opinionated, a snazzy dresser, and lived her life mostly on her own terms.
Dorothy is survived her sister Grace's daughters, Jacqueline Boyle and Donna Wahl, her sister Eva’s children, Bill Durham, Patricia Stowers and Dorothy Callan, her brother Jack's daughter, Doris Goetz and many loving extended family members. Her family would like to thank Diane Ross and Marsha Alan for their compassionate care of Dorothy and their very generous gift of their time after her passing. Rest in Peace, Aunt Dorothy.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 27, 2015, at Church of the Assumption with a reception following. Fr. K. Scott Connolly will be officiating.
