Douglas Walter Scoggins was born on Thursday April 2, 1964, in Concord, CA. He embarked on a life of limitless adventure full of unmatched ambition, laughter, and love for Jesus. Doug was suddenly called home to the Lord on July 7, 2022, at 58 years young. Doug grew up in Ferndale and graduated from Ferndale High School in 1982. He then completed his degree in Engineering Technology and Architectural Drafting at Bellingham Technical College in 1992 and set out to conquer the world of thoughtful design and construction. Doug founded Pioneer Post Frame and relentlessly dedicated himself to his craft. Doug leaves Pioneer Post Frame and numerous smaller enterprises in his dynamic and impactful wake. Doug was an avid hiker, biker, runner, and triathlete. He was a member of the Northwest Engineers’ Club, a third-degree black belt, an American Taekwondo Association instructor, a rock climbing and alpine climbing instructor, a member of the Bellingham Mountaineers, self-taught boat captain and amateur piano master. He was a beloved jokester and a fiercely opinionated, unapologetically genuine light for all those who were fortunate enough to know and love him. He follows his loved ones that have gone before him and is survived by so many that will love him dearly forever. He leaves behind on Earth his beloved Lynda Erickson, his incredible children Matthew and Kelsey Scoggins, along with his ex-wife and mother of his children, Barb Scoggins. He is also survived by his parents Colleen Raynor and Tom Scoggins, brother Dave “Dev” and his wife Sherry, niece and nephew Sarah and Joshua, sister Rochelle “Shelley” with nieces Guarasha, Aimee and Christina. Doug stood as father figure and “adventure shepherd” to Connor and Boe Erickson, who also survive him. And lastly but never least, he leaves his very best friends in the world, his chosen family, Brian and Katie Steele. “Anywho,” when you look around Whatcom County, you’ll see him easily. There are buildings created by his brilliant mind and touched by his hands at every turn. When you see a trail leading into the woods, know that Doug was there. At the summits of our mountains, you see silhouetted in the distance, he’s been there too. At each sunrise and sunset, rain or shine, Doug was out enjoying fully the world God created for us. He always got there before us, because he’s fast, and we’re all too slow. We thank him for the memories he’s gifted to us all, and we will celebrate his life for all the days of ours. A service to honor Doug was held in Bellingham. You may share memories with the family at
