Born in Vancouver, B.C. in 1938, Earl received his Bachelor of Arts from St. Martin’s University, followed by his MSW from St. Louis University and his PhD in Social Work from Walden University. Earl was a pioneer in youth mental health and group home services, focusing on improving the quality of life and outcomes for juveniles-at-risk in Northwest Washington, eventually establishing the Martin Center (now Whatcom Hospice House).
Earl’s personal and business interests were varied and wide-ranging, from Scouting and drumming, to boating, social work, and more, allowing him to make numerous connections throughout Northwest Washington and British Columbia. As a result, Earl was well-known and well-liked. He will be greatly missed.
Earl leaves behind his wife of 65 years, Arlene Dangelmaier, daughters Lisa, Heidi, and Kristin Dangelmaier, sons-in-law Jonathan Larter and Charles Sloan, and grandsons Taylor and Jared Larter.
His family asks that if you are so moved, you consider donating to Whatcom Hospice House in Earl’s memory.
