Edward H. Barten, age 86 of Bellingham, passed away peacefully at home with family members and hospice by his side on July 1, 2011. He was born January 14, 1925 in Olean, NY to Henry and Louise Barten. Ed served as a Corporal in the U.S. Marine Corps on Iwo Jima during WWII. He married Pat Maroney on May 21, 1949 in Newton, MA. Ed and Pat moved their family from Olean, NY to Bellingham in 1954 with Mobil Oil Refinery. Ed worked with Mobil for 35 years in maintenance and operations. Ed was an active volunteer and member of the Church of the Assumption. As a talented carpenter, Ed built the family homes in Olean, NY and later here in Bellingham. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Pat, daughter Kay (Jim) Gooderham of Missouri, son Phil (Debbie) Barten of Snohomish, WA, daughter Patricia (Barry) Kaiser of Bellingham, 7 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Vigil Services will be held at Westford Funeral Home on Wed., July 6 at 7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Church of the Assumption on Thursday, July 7th at 10:30 AM followed by a reception at Westford’s Broadway Hall, 1300 Broadway. Committal with military honors will follow at Greenacres Cemetery.
