Edwin “Ed” Hemnes, of Bellingham, WA, passed away suddenly February 18, 2016 at his home. Ed was 76, born in Bellingham on January 1, 1940 to Carl and Hannah (Akre) Hemnes. Ed was a life resident of Whatcom County and graduated from Bellingham High School. He worked for many years at Georgia Pacific. Ed was a cowboy at heart, an avid sportsman, outdoors man who excelled at hunting and fishing. He served as ski patrol director at Mt. Baker Ski Area.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers; John, Robert and Al Hemnes; and sisters, Marion McKelvy, Caroline McManes, and Olive Hemnes.
Ed is survived by his daughter Kristal (Jeff) Ovenell; son Scott (Christine) Hemnes; four grandchildren, Adam, Kelsie, Olivia, and Essie; great-grandson Eric; brothers, Richard Hemnes and Marvin (Barbara) Hemnes; numerous nieces and nephews; former wife Jeanne Lomsdalen Maloy; and his horse Goldie.
An open house will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 27, 2016 at Ed’s log home at 5590 Starry Rd., Bellingham.
