Elaine M. Emmons, of Bellingham, WA, passed away Tuesday, September 18,
2018 in Bellingham. Elaine was 85, born in Bellingham on July 17, 1933 to Christian and Hjardis (Michelson) Nelson.
Elaine graduated from Bellingham High School in 1951 and married her high school sweetheart Gene Emmons on December 27, 1952. They were married for 61 devoted years.
After they were married, they moved to South Carolina where Gene was stationed in the Navy. After he was discharged, they moved back to Bellingham and had Mark in 1954 and Rae in 1956.
Elaine always worked, starting in high school until she retired in 1993. In high school she worked as an usher at a local movie theater, the public library and Wahl’s Department Store. After her second child was born she worked at Pacific American Fisheries and Northwest Commercial Bank. She worked her last 23 years in the office at Bellingham Cold Storage until her retirement.
Elaine loved adventure, which was a good thing being married to Gene. They loved to go camping, hunting, backpacking, cross country skiing, boating, fishing and RV’ing. She loved to play tennis and was on several bowling
and golfing leagues. She also loved to play board and card games; she played a mean game of cribbage.
Elaine was preceded in death by her husband Gene Emmons and her sisters Louise Flinn and Bernita Dearborn. She is survived by her children, Mark (Debra)
Emmons and Rae (Mark) Wilson; her grandchildren, Rory Emmons, Sara Wilson and Hayley Wilson; her great-grandson Cillian Emmons; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society of Washington.
A Memorial Service will be held 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 25th
at Westford Funeral Home with a reception following.
