Ellis Massey, age 100, peacefully went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, December 11, 2013 in Bellingham. A lifetime resident of Whatcom County, he was born July 16th, 1913 near Everson to Lloyd and Laura Massey and was a 1932 graduate of Nooksack H.S. He married Gertrude Munsen in 1936 and raised 3 children who still reside in Bellingham; Lana Brookings, David (Susan) Massey, and Randy (Sandra) Massey. His younger brother Roy still lives in Bellingham as well. Ellis has 6 grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild. Gertrude Massey passed away in 1990, and Ellis’s 2nd wife Leah Davies passed away in 2007. Early in his career Ellis was co-owner of Donovan Furniture on State St., but he mostly distinguished himself as a local Realtor for many years in Bellingham by serving many key roles in the sale and development of several well-known businesses and industrial properties still active today. Arco and Intalco refineries, Fred Meyer and St. Joseph Hosp. to name just a few. He was active on the Bellingham Planning Commission, Board of Realtors President, and a longtime member of the Bellingham Golf and Country Club. He lived at the Parkway Chateau for the last 5 years and was very involved in all their activities. Memorials may be made to Immanuel Bible Church where he was a member or the Lighthouse Mission. Visitation will be held at Westford Funeral Home on Thursday, December 19th from 2-4 PM. A celebration of Ellis’ life will be held at Immanuel Bible Church, 2000 W. North Street in Bellingham on Friday, December 20th at 2 PM. A reception will follow.
