Esther Asplund, age 89 of Bellingham, passed away January 4, 2011. She was born May 18, 1921 in Glendale, WA to Fay & Pauline (Goodwin) Pratt. Esther attended school in Blaine, graduating in 1939, and then attended Business College. She married Melker Asplund in Bellingham in 1942. Esther was very active in the Congregational Church, a member of Priscilla Circle, and after battling cancer in 1979, she participated in Reach to Recovery for 9 years. She worked for the Bon Marche in the millinery department and later for Bellingham Travel as a travel agent, retiring in 1985. Esther enjoyed watching sports, volunteering, walking, traveling, playing bridge, and loved taking care of her grandchildren & great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Mel and her eight siblings. Esther is survived by her sons Mel Asplund and Carl (wife Brenda) Asplund, grandchildren Liane (Chuck) Martin, Mel Asplund, Jr., John Asplund and Abigail Asplund, and great- grandchildren Lindsie, Ashlie, Cory and Austin Martin.
A Celebration of Esther’s Life will be held at First Congregational Church on Saturday, January 15th at 11 AM followed by a reception.
