Esther Christensen Schlagel passed away Monday, July 25th at the Shuksan Healthcare Center where she had lived for the past year. No words can express the gratitude her family has to the caring and compassionate staff of Shuksan Healthcare. Esther was born to Lizzie and Charles Christensen on May 22, 1916 in Spokane, WA. She married Paul, her high school sweetheart, on February 26, 1939. They lived for many years in Pasco, WA. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sisters, Vida Young and Carol Christensen (Anderson, McCarthy). She is survived by her daughter, Carole (Lynn), grandchildren Lisa Lawrence and Galen Joseph Osier (Kim Dancy), and great grandchildren Curtis and Shantia Lawrence. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held for Esther on Friday, August 5, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at Assumption Catholic Church. A reception will follow at Westford’s Broadway Hall, 1300 Broadway. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Benefit X at 417 Gladstone St., Bellingham, WA 98225. Benefit X is a local grassroots group that provides goods and money to many local agencies including Girl Scouts, Hospice House, Bellingham Learning and Childcare Services, and Sean Humphrey House.
