Etta Kirk, age 71, passed away on Saturday, August 24, 2013 at Harborview Medical Center after a brief illness. She was born April 20, 1942 in Seattle, WA to Forest and Anna Emery. Etta graduated from Sequim High School and earned her B.A. in Education from WWU. She married her high school sweetheart, Mike Kirk, on September 8, 1962 in Sequim. Etta was a passionate teacher and taught for many years at Bellingham High School. She was a very active member of First Congregational Church in Bellingham. In later years Etta and Mike were able to lead groups on trips around the world for Bellingham Travel. Etta loved family, cooking and travel. She was vivacious, energetic and was a perfectionist in everything she did. Etta was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and was crazy about her grandchildren. Etta is survived by her loving husband of 50 years, Mike, son Steve and his wife Eileen and their children Ian and Lizzie, and many loving relatives and friends. Memorials may be made to the First Congregational Church or the American Cancer Society. A Celebration of Etta’s life will be held at the First Congregational Church in Bellingham at 2 PM on Friday, August 30th. A reception will follow at the church.
