07/15/1914 – 04/13/2012
Fern Terry Singer, age 97, passed away Friday, April 13th in Bellingham. She was born July 15, 1914 in Homer, MN to Oscar and Martha Nelson. Fern attended Winona State Teachers College and taught elementary level for five years. While spending time with a friend in California she was introduced to Milton Terry, who was visiting after graduating from Elgin Watch Making School. Fern and Milt were married in 1940 and moved to Bellingham to purchase their own jewelry store. During their 30 years of marriage they owned and operated Milton E. Terry Jewelers in downtown Bellingham. They were avid members of Eastern Star, Kiwanis, Elks, the 30 and 6 Dance Club and Comas Club. After Milton passed in 1970, she married Ed Singer in 1975 and retired from the Jewelry business. She and Ed enjoyed traveling, spending time in Kauai, and playing golf at the Bellingham Golf and Country Club. Fern was proud of her two Grandmothers Tournament trophies and continued golf after Ed passed in 1995. During her later years she was an active member P.E.O., played bridge at the Country Club, cared for her home, garden and her family. While living at the Willows for the last 7 years, she enjoyed her new friends and participated in many activities. Fern loved reading, watching sports and was known for always having a quip, a chuckle, and a bunch of fresh flowers. For many years Fern was comforted by the faith community at First Congregational Church in Bellingham. Fern was preceded in death by husband Milton E. Terry and husband Edward F. Singer. She is survived by daughter Susan Terry (companion Ross Clement), granddaughter Tricia BeCraft (partner Jordan BeCraft) and their daughter Aima Miltenberger, granddaughter Katie Green (fiance’ Greg Zimmerman), and many loving family friends. A Celebration of Fern’s life will be held at Westford Funeral Home on Friday, April 20th at 2 PM. A reception will follow.
