Frank A. Brown, age 95, passed away Monday, May 16, 2011 at home in Bellingham. He was born December 17, 1915 in Tumwater, WA to Frank and Ethel Brown. Frank graduated from Whatcom High School in 1934. He married Imogene “Gene” Peterson on June 18, 1938. Frank only had two paid jobs in his life. He was a Bellingham Herald paperboy, followed by 44 years at Puget Sound Pulp & Timber (later GP), where he was a lead welder and an active union member and representative. Frank was passionate about politics and an active member of the Whatcom County Democratic Party. Frank served 12 years as a commissioner on the board of the Bellingham/Whatcom County Housing Authorities. Frank and Gene have been longtime, active members of St. James Presbyterian Church, where he was a Deacon and an Elder. Frank enjoyed world travel and was an avid reader and student of history. Frank enjoyed his family and was a loving husband and devoted father. Frank and Gene raised their family on the southside, residing over 65 years in the same home on Park Ridge Road. Frank was preceded in death by his son Michael, sisters Leona Tisdale and Alice Brown and brothers Del, Alvin and Owen Brown. He is survived by his loving wife of 73 years, Gene, children Susan Bornstein, David (Kathy) Brown, Steven (Philomena) Brown, Elizabeth Brown-Osuga (Katsunori), daughter-in-law Sandy Brown, grandchildren Eirik, Heidi, Megan, Dylan, Luke, Karin, Erin, Dana and Eric, brothers Malcolm and Robert (Maxine) Brown and sisters Gloria (Wally) Kirby and Dorothy (Gordon) Benner. Memorials may be made to the Opportunity Council, the Bellingham Public Library or Whatcom Hospice. A Memorial Service will be held at St. James Presbyterian Church on Tuesday, May 24th at 2 PM followed by a reception at the church.
