Frank E. Proffitt, age 93 of Ferndale, passed away Monday, October 31, 2011. He was born September 21, 1918 in Seattle, WA to Will and Mamie Proffitt. Frank was raised in Seattle and graduated from Queen Anne High School, where he was a basketball and track star and class president. Frank was a proud WWII veteran, having served as a Corporal in the U.S. Army 3rd Infantry Division under General Patton. While in the Army, he served in North Africa, Italy, France and Germany. He married Jean Sailer on September 13, 1962 in Seattle. As a skilled craftsman, Frank built his own home on Sandy Point. Frank had a great love for Sandy Point, where he served as Harbormaster for over 25 years. His great sense of humor was appreciated by everyone, including the wonderful staff of St. Francis and St. Joseph Hospital. Frank was preceded in death by his brothers Buster Proffitt and Jim Proffitt, sister Grace Denovan and son-in-law Ron Stiem. Frank is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Jean, daughters Sharon Stiem, Cindy (Scott) Abrahamson, Libby (Tom) Hiatt, Sandy (Brad) Barnard, grandchildren Adam (Aimee) McNae, Alexa McNae, and Jacob Barnard, great-grandchildren Isla and Roan McNae, sister Helen Gaetz, brothers Ray Proffitt and Joe (Jeneane) Proffitt. A Celebration of Frank’s life with military honors will be held at Westford Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 8th at 1 PM followed by a reception across the street at Westford’s Broadway Hall.
