Fritz O. Anderson, of Bellingham, WA, passed away on his birthday, Friday, February 26, 2016 in Bellingham. He was 89, born in Sanak Island, Alaska on February 26, 1927 to Fritz O. and Melinda Anderson.
Captain Fritz O. Anderson had a distinguished career in the US Army Transport Division, Military Sealift Command, and as a Merchant Marine spanning WWII, Korean War and Vietnam Era. From the late 1960’s until his retirement in 2007 he captained or worked on oil research ships, coastal freighters, fishing vessels and tugboats in the Bering Sea. He was respected and admired by his peers, family and friends, and he never turned down a request or favor from those he knew. Dad was most proud that all of the men who sailed and worked with him were brought home safely to their families.
Fritz was preceded in death by wife Barbara J. Anderson in 1981, son Richard J. Anderson in 2015 and sister Molly Weister. He is survived by his sons Fritz W. Anderson and Gene J. (Ana) Anderson; daughters, Linda Anderson, Betty (Paul) Hanson and Kristine (Billy) Pippin, grandsons; Brett (Abby) Pippin and Justin Pippin and brother Knute Anderson
A graveside service will be held at Enterprise Cemetery in Ferndale at 11 AM on Monday, June 13th.
