Garfield Penley, age 94 of Bellingham, passed away November 15, 2013. Garfield was born November 7, 1919 in Leicester, North Carolina. He was a veteran of World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart. He lived and worked most of his life in Centralia, WA, where he had his own CPA business, raised his family, and was an avid fisherman and tennis player. He moved to Bellingham with his wife 7 years ago. Garfield is survived by his wife of 72 years, Cecilia Heffner Penley, his four children Michael (Julie) Penley of Richland, WA; Ronald (Sally) Penley of Olympia, WA; Susan Ann (Terry) Wade of Gilbert, AZ; and Sara Jane Penley of Bellingham, WA, 3 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and many loving family and friends. In recent years, Garfield and Cecilia have enjoyed tying flies to share with many and watched the tennis channel on a daily basis. The family will have a memorial mass at a later date at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Centralia and St. Joachim Catholic Church in Ferndale. The family would like to thank Homeplace in Burlington for their generous caring of Garfield in his last month of life. Remembrances may be made to your favorite charity. Garfield has now found the perfect fishing hole and tennis game.
