Gene Morgan

December 18, 1929 — February 15, 2015

Gene Morgan went to Heaven to be with Christ on Sunday, February 15, 2015. He was preceded in death by his father Henry Berton Morgan, mother Mabel Irene Bakke (Rouse), brother Kenneth and sister Lileene, He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Janice Anne Morgan, four children; Debbie (Fred) Bengen, Darcy Mariott, Denice Haskins (Joe) and son Brian Morgan, 20 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, brother John, sister Betty, along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Gene was born and raised in Little Rock, Arkansas and resided there until he enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 19. He served his country as a naval cook on a flag ship during the Korean War. He then moved to Washington State to the small town of Birdsview where he met and fell in love with his loving wife, Janice Anne Hinshaw. The two were married in a small church in Sedro Woolley and have shared the last 61 beautiful years together.

Through the years Gene held several different positions and worked hard to support his family. He was an orderly in a local mental hospital, worker at an oil refinery, logger and later was the owner/operator of Brian’s Roofing where Gene continued to work into his 70's. For Gene, family was always most important and he enjoyed family gatherings and spending time with the kids. He was always smiling and loved telling stories of his past and having the grandchildren gather together to sing “Papas a Handsome Brute.”

Gene spent as much time outdoors as he could. He loved hunting with his dogs (even after being shot in a hunting accident where he almost lost his life). Gene never let adversity get him down and truly enjoyed the smaller things in life. Gene was a Christian man, he would speak often of God’s promise and Word, always making sure that those he knew and loved not only knew of God but knew his promise as well. Gene knew the importance of knowing Christ on a personal level, and encouraged people to spend time in his Word and stood strong in his faith even when things were not great. Psalm 23 was one of his favorite verses and he took comfort in that and knew that there was no reason to fear death but that when it was his time that he would go home to be with our Father, God in Heaven. Gene was loved and will be missed by many. There will be a celebration of Gene’s life and the date and time will be posted at www.westfordfuneralhome.com for all that would like to join.
