George Butenschoen, age 94, passed away peacefully on October 19, 2015. George honorably served our country in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1945. While on leave he married the love of his life, Shirley Ann Catlin, on October 26, 1944 in Millbank, South Dakota.
George and Shirley have dedicated their entire lives to their large and loving family. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, travelling and family gatherings. He also had an ear for music and played a variety of instruments. George was honest, hardworking, had great integrity and a witty sense of humor.
He was preceded in death by his infant son Matthew, granddaughter Deanna, brothers Oscar and Robert, and sons-in-law Jim and Don. He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Shirley, children Mick (Myrna) Butenschoen, Carolyn (Rod) Jones, Pamela (Warren) Ballard, Linda Walker, Alana Randall, Janis (Jerry) Doyle, Gina (Mike) Miller, Tammie McArdle, Mary (Joey) DenHartog, Mark Butenschoen and Scott (Janet) Butenschoen, 23 grandchildren, numerous great-grandchildren, siblings Alma, Henry, Leroy, Charles, Walter, Theodore, Dorothy and David and many loving relatives and friends.
The family wishes to thank the staff and residents of Summit Place for the heartfelt care and love they have given to George and Shirley.
Visitation will be held at Westford Funeral Home on Sunday, October 25th from 2-4 PM. Funeral Services will be held at Westford Funeral Home on Monday, October 26th at 10 AM. Committal with Military Honors will follow at Greenacres Cemetery. Reception following at Westford’s Broadway Hall, 1300 Broadway.
