George Hardgrove Edwards was born on September 3, 1910 in Hosmer, BC. He was a resident of Bellingham since 1920 and passed away on January 13, 2011 at Whatcom Hospice House, having reached the age of 100 years. A graduate of Fairhaven High School, he worked in the timber industry all of his working life and was employed by Puget Sound Pulp and Timber Co., later known as Georgia Pacific. He was president of the Georgia Pacific Retirees Association and a member of B.P.O.E. He worked on various Bellingham City Mayoral committees and was very influential on how monies were spent on his neighborhood. He was a member of the Assumption Church, a long time usher for the Saturday evening Mass, and he donated many hours to church events. His life revolved around his family, hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was known for his roses and hydrangeas and had the prettiest garden on the corner of King and Carolina Streets.
George was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth; parents Samuel and Otta Mae; brother Ralph; and sister Doreen Crews. He is survived by his four children Richard Edwards and his wife Cynthia of Hobson, MT, Michael Edwards and his wife Jane Beno of Kenmore, WA, Robert Edwards and wife Robin of Snohomish, WA, and Kathleen Edwards of Kirkland, WA; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and numerous nephews and nieces.
A Vigil Service will be held at Westford Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 19th at 7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Church of the Assumption on Thursday, January 20th at 10:30 AM followed by a reception at the Church. Private graveside service at Greenacres Cemetery to follow.
