George T. Lallas, age 92, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2022 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was born August 6, 1930 in Bellingham, WA to Tomas and Ester Lallas. George graduated from Bellingham High School in the class of 1948. Upon graduation, George began his enlistment with the U.S. Marines Corps. George served two years overseas where he was stationed at Subic Bay Naval Base in the Philippines. George was assigned Embassy Guard Duty as part of his service in the Military Police. In 1950, as part of Fox Company, 2nd Battalion, 5th Regiment of the 1st Marine Division, George saw action from the Incheon Landing through the Chosin Reservoir Campaign where his Company served as rear guard for the march out. Upon returning state side and convalescing in Bremerton, WA from wounds suffered in combat, George entered the restaurant business with his uncle Gus Trames. In 1952 George’s brother, John T. Lallas, returned from service in Korea and together they formed the Royal Inn Restaurant, which became a popular mainstay of downtown Bellingham over the next 30 years.
In 1959 George married Alta Miller and together they raised their four children: Jim, John, Joe, and Janna. Left orphaned at eight years old and being the youngest sibling in his family, George always remembered his struggles as a child. Because of these early challenges, George generously helped many people throughout his life.
He was preceded in death by his wife Alta, daughter Janna, brother John, and sister Anna. George is survived by his three sons, Jim, John, and Joe Lallas, grandchildren Alexi Lallas, Ross Starkey, Jess Lallas, James Lallas, Anna Lallas, Jordyn Larsen, Willy Lallas, Emma Laszlo, Joseph Lallas, and Katie Lallas, and his great-grandchildren Avery, Charlotte, Julius, Ryder, Jeremiah.
A Trisagion Prayer Service will be held at Westford Funeral Home on Thursday, September 29, 2022 at 6 PM. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church on Friday, September 30, 2022 at 12 PM. Committal following at Bayview Cemetery. Fr. Michael Tervo will be officiating.
