Gerry Zaremba, age 97, passed away in Bellingham on April 16th. She was born October 26, 1918 in Sebring, OH to Norman and Nettie Murray. Her family left Ohio for California when she was 7 years old and then came up to Washington.
Gerry graduated valedictorian from Bellingham High School in 1940. After working hard and saving her money she went on to attend Stanford University, graduating in 1948. That same year she married Carl Zaremba and their one and only son, John, was born a year later. Gerry enjoyed her bookkeeping and accounting work for over 50 years, retiring at the age of 79.
She also enjoyed many wonderful trips to Europe, Canada, and around the US with friends. She was active in various organizations over the years including AAUW, the Bellingham Music Club, and Northwest Baptist Church. Gerry was known for her strong faith, sharp mind, positive attitude and sense of humor. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered.
She was preceded in death by her husband Carl, son John, brothers Norman and Bill Murray and sister Neva Smith. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Lois, grandson Carl Zaremba (wife Sarah) and their children Phillip and Anna, granddaughter Jill Paxton (husband Brian) and their sons Ethan, Isaac and Simon, granddaughter Julie Lange (husband Doug), granddaughter Jennifer Zaremba (fiancé Lydell Eigenbrood) and many loving relatives and friends.
A private family service will be held. Memorials in Gerry’s name may be made to Northwest Baptist Church or Whatcom Hospice.
