Raised by her grandmother since the age of nine, Grace lived in Crystal City, TX before moving to Toppenish, WA. While on a trip to Canada they discovered the town of Lynden, instantly falling in love and moving there in 1954. Grace later moved to Bellingham to help raise her siblings with her mother, Maria Menchaca Garcia. She also worked at Cascade Cleaners and Georgia-Pacific until it closed in 2007.

She also spent many years singing in the church choir, and participated in the Catholic Daughters #243 where she served as treasurer, and the Charismatic Prayer Group, (currently the Prayer Ministry) which she attended weekly. She especially enjoyed sitting the presence of Jesus during Adoration. Grace loved canning fruit and vegetables, working in her garden, and tending to her beautiful flowers. She was gifted at making all kinds of floral arrangements with fresh and dry flowers and enjoyed making jewelry, engaging with the Pacific Arts Group for 17 years. There was nothing she was afraid to try!
