Harlan S. Kelley, age 83 of Sumas, passed away March 24, 2011 in Bellingham. He was born April 29, 1927 in Fordville, ND to Harry and Pearl (Cooper) Kelley. Harlan served in the US Navy Seabee’s during WWII. He was an active member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, the Lions Club, Sumas American Legion Post #212, and was a Fire Commissioner for the Kendall Fire Department.  Following his military service Harlan was a logger in Whatcom County for over 20 years and an Independent Insurance Agent in Everson and Sumas for over 40 years.  He enjoyed golfing, snow skiing and hunting.   As the youngest of eight and father of four, he had a zest for life, always up for the next adventure or fun family activity. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Dolores, daughters Linda (Rand) Ebberson of Seattle, Colleen Kelley (Mark Seidenfeld) of Tallahassee, FL, sons Anthony (Karen) Kelley of Sumas and Daniel Kelley of Los Angeles, CA, grandchildren Jessica and James Ebberson, Matthew Seidenfeld and Briana and Ben Kelley, brother Walter “Bill” Kelley of Los Angeles, CA, and sister Opal Miller of Eugene, OR.  Memorials may be made to St. Peter’s Church in Deming, the Lions Club or the American Legion.
A Vigil Service will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church on Thursday, March 31st at 7 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Peter’s Catholic Church on Friday, April 1st at 10 AM  immediately followed by Committal with military honors at St. Peter’s Cemetery and a reception at the Church.
