Helen J Hindman, of Bellingham, WA passed away on April 10, 2019 peacefully at home in Bellingham. She was 99, born on April 15, 1919 in Wildrose, ND to Ed and Anna (Elie) Akre where she was raised. Helen moved to Bellingham as a young woman. During World War II Helen was a riveter for Boeing, building parts for the B-29 in the former Bon Marche Building in downtown Bellingham. She met her husband Knolen in Bellingham, they married in 1946, then moved to Proberta, CA owning and operating Hindman’s Furniture for 25 years. Helen spent most weekends on Lake Shasta with her husband, often bass fishing. Helen and Knolen welcomed everyone at their home in Proberta providing fun and entertainment including the family dog and Bill the pony. In 1995 Helen moved to Bellingham to be close to family. She was an active participant in Central Lutheran’s Church Ruth’s Circle making quilts. An avid knitter, donating most of what she made. Helen enjoyed making lefsa with her family and friends, playing cards, games, and traveling. Helen’s family looked forward to the long letters received at Christmas detailing her knitting projects and plans at church for Christmas. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Knolen, her sisters, Hannah Hemnes, Cora Michelson and Ethel Nelson, her brother Earl Akre, her brother-in-law Wayne, and sister-in-law Mary Ellen Hindman. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews. A special thank you to the caring staff at Orchard Park Assisted Living where Helen resided and to Hospice. A celebration of Helen’s Life will be held on Saturday, April 27th at 1:00 at Orchard Park Assisted Living. Final resting place will be in Red Bluff, California.
