Helen M. White, age 99, went to be with her Lord and Savior on October 9, 2016. She was born on January 31, 1917 in Chicago, IL to Frank and Jennie Peterson.
Helen enjoyed her childhood years in Batavia, IL, where she excelled in sports, especially swimming. She married Frank White on January 31, 1941 in Batavia, IL, and they soon moved to Bellingham. Helen was a talented artist who painted many beautiful pictures and was especially good with portraits. She was a devoted Christian and was a longtime member of Geneva Community Church, and later Northlake Church. After developing essential tremor in her 60s, Helen faced the disability with her sense of humor and her strong faith in God. Rather than focusing on her health challenges, Helen was always positive and uplifting to others. In recent years, Helen enjoyed reading and using her artistic talents in her garden. Helen was also a dedicated Seattle Seahawks and Mariners fan.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank White; daughter, Jeanne Johnson; son-in-law, Roger Schmidt; daughter-in-law, Lori White; great-granddaughter, Nicole Spyksma; two sisters and two brothers. Helen is survived by her daughter, Ruth Schmidt; her son, Jim White; nine grandchildren: Steve, Anne, Joe, Becky, Amy, Gary, Sheri, Adam and Jacob; 18 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Mt. Baker Care Center for all of their love and care for Helen.
A Service of Remembrance will be held on Sunday, October 30th at 1 p.m. at Westford’s Broadway Hall, 1300 Broadway, with a reception following.
