Heloise Chambers

January 8, 1926 — February 15, 2024

Heloise Aurora Rimes Chambers passed quietly from this world on February 15, 2024 at the age of 98. She did so with all the grace and dignity with which she lived her life.

She was born in Lake Providence, Louisiana to William and Annie Rimes. She enjoyed a loving childhood with her brothers William and Robert Rimes, both Jesuit priests. She was a terrific high school basketball player in Monroe, Louisiana and went on to graduate from Our Lady of the Lake College in San Antonio, Texas. She worked as a social worker in Monroe after college. She met and married Naval Captain Horace “Bay” Chambers (deceased) of Mangham, Louisiana and traveled the world from Guam to Newport, RI, including many stops in between during Bay’s long Naval career. After Bay’s retirement they lived on Whidbey Island and attended St. Augustine Church.

She is survived by her children Robert Chambers (DeAnne), William Chambers (Mary), and Kathryn Schulte (Steve). Her daughter, Mary Mero, left a hole in her heart when she died in 2010. Mary’s husband, Jeff Mero (Ellen), remains part of the large family. Heloise loved and was loved by her many grandchildren: Chris Chambers (Yasmin), Megan Hartshorn (Benny), Dominic Chambers (Lisa), Maggie Miller (Brian), Will Chambers, Elizabeth Chambers, Jack Chambers (Macie), Clare Iba (Hank), Sam Chambers, Aaron Schulte (deceased), Matthew Schulte (Mary), Jeffery Schulte, Danny Mero (Kelly), and Jacquie Onstot (Keith). At the time of her passing she was blessed with 14 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. Her life was full and spent always as a person for others.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at Church of the Assumption in Bellingham, Washington on April 5th at 10:30am. She will be laid to rest at a private graveside committal.
