You and me. . .
As I come in for a landing at SeaTac and view the sun setting over the Olympic mountains and see the city of Seattle skyline I am brought back to so many times of our past: the you and me times.
You and me taking the bus downtown as children.
You and me going to the Seattle Science center.
You and me going to the top of the Space needle together.
You and me going to high school together. You and me joining the Air Force together.
My most vivid and memorable nightmare as a child was when ‘some gang’ of kids took you and hurt you and I could not help. I so wanted to protect you.
Even as recently as a year ago I recall you and me walking along the streets of Bellingham and me wanting you to “lift your feet”, “don’t shuffle”, and “be healthy”...and please do not be hurt by the opinions of others.
In all the you and me moments I remember I wanted to protect you. To have you be “normal” so others would not take advantage of you...hurt you.
Perhaps you were right all along. You were no different from others as you did not see yourself as different.
In your opinion, the only person whose opinion really ever mattered, you were no different.
You knew so much....I have learned so much from you. To live in the very now...to know you are loved and to love others. Thank you.
