James "Jim" N. Fay

April 7, 1949 — September 20, 2022

Jim Fay passed away in Bellevue, WA on September 20, 2022 with his wife and son by his side. Jim was born April 7, 1949 in Aurora, Colorado to James and Dollie Fay, and graduated from Colorado School of Mines with a degree in Chemical Engineering. After graduation he moved to Bellingham to work as an engineer for Ershigs Inc. Jim met Sue while living in Bellingham, and they married in the spring of 1978. Shortly after marrying they relocated to Vancouver, WA, making this their home for 42 years. Jim worked for LaValley Industrial Plastics in Vancouver for 10 years before starting his own business, Fiberglass Consulting & Construction which he operated until retiring. In 2020 Jim and Sue left Vancouver behind and moved to Redmond, WA to be closer to their son Jason and his family.

Jim had a passion for the outdoors, whether it was skiing the snowcapped mountains in Colorado and the West Coast, walking the beaches in Hawaii, or designing and maintaining a beautiful backyard oasis at home. Jim made friends wherever he went, and truly loved and enjoyed each and every day.

Jim was preceded in death by his daughter Michelle, his parents J.C. and Dottie, his aunts Grace White and Alva Taylor, Sue’s parents Bob and Grace Reid, his sisters-in-law Christine and Georgene, and his brother-in-law Casey Thompson. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Sue, son Jason (Lindsey) and their sons Brody and Nick, Sue’s brother Rick (Tammy) Zimmer, Sue’s sisters Barbara Thompson, Karen Reid-Allen (Craig) and Melanie (John) Neate, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A private family graveside service will be held at Greenacres Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution in Jim’s honor to Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research in Seattle.
