11/23/1921 – 02/05/2012
Jeanette A. Foote, age 90 passed away February 5, 2012 in Bellingham. She was born November 23, 1921 in Stevens Point, Wisconsin to Robert and Wilhelmina Much. Jeanette grew up in Chicago. The day she turned 18 she packed up her clothes, left the family, and she never looked back. She was living at the home of Alden Foote’s sister in Chicago. Alden visited his sister and took a liking to Jeanette. They married and soon moved to Whatcom County. Alden was a longshoreman who lived in Whatcom County. He also worked part time for Alex Gitts, hauling hay and working on the farm. Alden was a jack of all trades and could help Alex with whatever he needed. Alden and Jeanette lived in several homes in the county, and finally in Bellingham on Woburn Street. Jeanette was pregnant at one time and doctors had to decide- save the baby or save Jeanette. Alden chose Jeanette. After that she was unable to have children. They went out often with a group of friends- Alex and his wife Pearl, Paul and Betty, Vick and Loretta (later Vic and Mary). They became like family and enjoyed spending holidays with the Gitts’. She liked to be around people and was very social. She especially enjoyed going out for dinners. She never really worked outside the home and was the ultimate stay at home wife. Alden worked hard at earning the money, and Jeanette worked really hard at spending it! Gambling was her thing- she enjoyed betting on horseraces, pulltabs at the Horseshoe, and trips to Reno. The day after Alden’s funeral in she was on the bus to Reno. Jeanette was a character- just a little itty bitty thing, but you really noticed her when she was around. After Alden passed in 1982 she went to live with Alden’s nephew. Jeanette could be described as eccentric, independent, and active. A graveside service will be held at Enterprise Cemetery in Ferndale on Wednesday, February 15th at 10:00 am.
